The Gokyo Cho La Pass EBC Trek is considered moderate to challenging in terms of difficulty. This scenic Khumbu region’s adventure tests your body and mind. One of the notable challenges that you have to deal with during the trek is the high altitude.
The lack of oxygen at high altitudes can be difficult for those who are not properly acclimatized. Along the way, you have to cover long distances on foot, ascending and descending on rocky and rugged paths, which demands a good endurance level, caution and focus.
The Khumbu region’s landscape is uneven in many areas. This adds to the navigation challenges. In addition, the fluctuating weather conditions at high altitude with the likelihood of sudden low visibility and temperature drops can also make this adventure demanding.
However, these hardships can be coped with through proper preparation. Following the right acclimatization schedule will let your body gradually adapt to the high elevation. Also, maintaining a slow and steady pace will help to save energy for the difficult sections.
You can handle the weather related challenges by being dressed in layers. In addition, being ready for daily schedule changes when necessary can also help you deal with possible weather challenges. With adequate preparation and proper caution, the EBC Gokyo Cho La Pass Trek rewards you with an unforgettable Himalayan experience.

Having your own sleeping bag offers comfort in the freezing nights, particularly at the teahouses of higher elevations.

Other popular dishes available on the menu are noodles, porridge, pasta, veggie soups, fried rice, Tibetan bread, sandwiches, toast, momo, roti, Sherpa stew, bread, eggs and pancakes. To keep yourself warm, you can have hot beverages such as ginger tea, particularly during the colder mornings and nights.
Maintaining good nutrition is one of the most significant factors that you need to focus on during the journey to have enough strength and energy. Most of the trekking packages include full-board meals. You will enjoy your breakfast and dinner at your booked teahouse while lunch is arranged at the popular eatery or teahouse along the trail around the mid-day.
The dishes served at the mountain teahouses on the route of Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes are hearty and wholesome, allowing you to progressively build and conserve energy for each day of the Everest region’s adventure.

For the Everest Base Camp Gokyo Chola Pass trek, having travel insurance is a must due to the risks that are linked with high altitude trekking in remote locations. The trek takes you to different high elevations where even the fit adventurers can find themselves suffering from altitude-related issues.
The rugged and high altitude path of the Himalayas may lead to injuries due to slipping and falling. Also, the weather is unpredictable at high altitudes. There is a possibility of sudden snowstorms or rains that can make the trekking path risky to traverse and disrupt the trek. So, you need to have insurance that provides coverage for the medical expenses because of injury, accidents or illness during the trek.
Some emergencies require evacuation by helicopter. The cost of evacuation can be very high if not insured. Apart from that travel insurance also protects against unforeseen disruptions. It also takes care of lost or damaged luggage.
The climate at the high altitudes changes frequently and this could be a reason for the delays of flights to Lukla. This can change the trekking plans which would mean increasing costs. However, travel insurance already takes care of those expenses.
The general insurance usually does not cover high-altitude trekking adventures. So, you have to opt for a travel insurance that covers the risks that can possibly arise during high altitude trekking to enjoy the journey without any worries.
Make sure to confirm that your insurance provides coverage for trekking with evacuation. Without it, unexpected circumstances might transform the adventure into a serious financial burden. So, having travel insurance for the EBC Chola pass trek is crucial.
