This is a drive day winds through smooth roads to the hilly rugged roads and river valleys. You can witness the countryside beauty that has terraced fields, giant hills with distant mountain views. On clear day, beautiful glimpses of Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, and Langtang Lirung are visible.

If you have time in the evening, take a refreshing walk along the Bhote Koshi River and stupa near the settlement.

This is the first day of trekking on the trails of Langtang Gosainkunda Trek on foot. Walking along the forested path with Langtang River and a suspension bridge over it offers an exciting trek day. the Lush forest is highly dominated by calming Oak, Rhododendron, and Bamboo trees. You may encounter Langur monkeys and different birds.

There are no traditional villages along the way to Lama Hotel, However, there are teahouses for facilitating trekkers Like Domen River View Hotel, Hotel Bamboo Lodge, and Rimche before Lama Hotel.

This day you travel from the narrow forest trails by the Langtang River to open alpine meadows with a gradual altitude gain. Slowly approaching the Juniper and Yak pastures you leave Rhododendrons, Oak and Pine forest. If you are lucky you can witness Red Pandas peeking through the bushes in the Dense sections.Β 

Leaving Lama hotel, you come across Riverside hotel, Chhunama and Phering Kharka before Ghodatabela. While approaching Ghodatabela, you can get stunning mountain views of Langtang Lirung above the valley. Continuing you come across a short uphill that leads to Thangsyap then to an old destroyed Langtang Village and new Langtang Village.

The trails get more open with wide Yak Pasture fields with alpine meadows and barren hills. You can witness short junipers, and grasses. The Himalayan Griffons, bald eagles, and orange beaked crows keep hovering in the open sky. You can find the Himalayan Yaks and goats freely grazing on the pastures. You may also witness blue sheeps so, keep your cameras rolling!

the trek on this day is short so you can take breaks and photo stops. There are no steep uphill and downhill, however because of the increasing altitude make sure you ascend slowly and stay hydrated. In the evening, if you have time you can visit Kyanjin Monastery and swiss cheese factory. The Gompa is sacred and the cheese factory has an ancient ambience with its old tools for making cheese.Β Β

The day today have manage for acclimatizing and hiking some mountain hill around. It is also a popular rest stop for trekkers trekking in Langtang, if you just want to take a rest instead of hiking. Many side trips and peak climbing start from this point, basically trekkers do hike on Kyanjin Ri and Tsergo Ri.

Kyanjin Ri: It is the side trek done from the Kyanjin Gompa that provides stunning mountain views of Langtang Lirung, Kinsung, Changbu, Yala Peak, Dorje Lakpa, and Langtang Glaciers. For Trekkers looking for a moderate-level side trek from Kyanjin Gompa, that has stunning sunrise, sunset and breathtaking panoramic vistas, it is a great choice!

Tsergo Ri: Tsergo Ri is the popular side trip from Kyanjin Gompa that is slightly more challenging than Kyanjin Gompa. The altitude just reached above 5000m with 5,050m. The extra Mountain and Landscape View you get to see is worth choosing the climb. As you can see Mount Shisapangma (located in Tibet), and prominent Langshisa Ri mountain. Other than that every great mountain around the area is visible from this point like Langtang Lirung, Gangchenpo, Changbu, and Dorje Lakpa.

It is the first day you start descending and return to the river valley and Lush forest with the chirping songs of birds. You revisit the teahouses of Langtang village, Thansyap, Ghodatabela, and Riverside. Leaving the Alpine pasture fields and reuniting with the lush foothills provides a nostalgic and warming experience this day.

Now it is time to join Gosainkunda Trekking trail after leaving the Langtang river valley today. The hike today mostly goes down until you pass by Rimche, and Bamboo teahouses. Returning to the foothill forest of Langtang you can find dense Oaks, Mosses, and Lichens. You are back at the trails aside rocky cliffs with wild honey standing still above the aggressive Langtang River.

After that, there is a resting point where two paths separate. Leaving the trail to Syabrubesi, you move on the path leading to Thulo Syabru, which is a big and popular trekkers stop doing Langtang Gosainkunda Trek.

Continuing on the Gosainkunda trekking trail, this day involves walking uphill at the beginning on the dense forest of Pine, Oak, and Rhododendrons. You can get wonderful glimpses of Langtang and Ganesh Himal along the way. As you move forward you come across a small settlement at Dursagang and pass Foprang Dada before reaching Shin Gompa/Chandanbari. The village is popular for its old monastery and cheese factory, where you can visit after check-in at Guesthouse.

Another beautiful day starts with a peaceful breeze from the lush forest. Leaving Shin Gompa or Chandanbari you come across another teashop, Chyolangpati. With a gradual ascend through the green forest of Pine and Rhododendrons, the Landscapes slowly approaches alpine beauty. You pass by the teahouses of Chyolangpati and Laurebina before climbing uphill toward Gosainkunda.

On the uphill there are several Buddhist Stupas made with stone, and Buddha paintings. You can witness distant mountain views of Langtang and Ganesh Himal range. After a tiring climb there is a popular Temple, decorated with prayer flag with a Buddha stupa and a hand sculpture. You can take a short break in the temple and start ascending towards Gosainkunda.

With a Calming rest the journey continues along the Rocky Mountains, the trail then gets narrow and rocky mixed with some stone stairs offering a thrilling experience. The pathway is supported with metal bars only, so make sure you enjoy while being careful. Along the way you can witness other holy lakes of Saraswati Kunda and Bhairabkunda. Then, you get to your awaited destination of the day, Gosainkunda Lake.

Early morning if you want you can take a cold dip in the Gosainkunda lake. This day you get to sightsee beautiful lakes Ganesh Kunda, Surya Kunda, and cross a thrilling Lauribina Pass (4,610m) with Mountain views. As, you are at a high altitude zone you need to stay hydrated and ascend slowly. Passing by Phedi and Dhupi Chaur you reach Ghopte which is the last stop of the day.

From Ghopte the journey takes a descent towards the next destination, then you have to ascend uphill. In this trail you walk through beautiful alpine and rhododendron trees. You get to witness majestic views of Langtang Lirung and Ganesh Himal. With the clear weather you can see Gaurishankar Himal Aswell.Β 

This day you cross a small pass Thadepati Pass (3,690m) then cross army checkpost and reach Mangengoth. Then exiting Langtang National Park, you get to Kutumsang, a scenic village of Helambu.

Best Time to do Langtang Gosainkunda Trek

Your trek experience is highly determined by the time you choose to travel. For trekking Langtang Gosainkunda, Spring (mid-March to May) and autumn (mid-September to November) are the best seasons.

Autumn: It is the peak season for trekking in Nepal for Langtang Gosainkunda. Post-monsoon reveals the vibrant nature and washed mountains that enrich the scenic experience. The breeze feels fresh, lush forest, and the weather is clear for witnessing stunning snow-capped mountains. The temperatures are moderate during the day and the overly warm sun is faded by the cool air around the period.

Spring: The foothills of the Langtang during this time are in bloom state. Days are warm and clear, perfect for trekking and mountain sightings. Trekking trails are covered with beautiful rhododendrons and wildflowers. It is a pleasant season with longer day time for explorations.

Difficulty of Langtang Gosainkunda trek

This trek has a difficulty level of Moderate to challenging trek. With additional steep trails of the Gosainkunda Trek make the journey slightly challenging. The days include long ascend and high-altitude travel. You need a good level of fitness and mental preparedness. With proper training, trekkers can enjoy the journey in comfort.

Terrains: The trails move from dense forests with the trails alongside rivers. As you get to higher-altitude the trails become rugged and steep. During monsoon, the trail becomes muddy and slippery.

Physically demanding parts: From Syabrubesi to Langtang Village, and from Thulo Syabru to Lauribina Pass, there are steep ascends that require good physical strains. It can be tiring for the beginner trekkers.

High Altitude: With an increase in altitude it becomes harder to continue trekking. The altitude during the Langtang Gosainkunda keeps changing. It exceeds 4,000m in some parts that require careful supervision.

Alternative Trek

Langtang Valley Trek: This is a classical trekking route in Langtang region that starts from Syabrubesi to Kyanjin Gompa to Syabrubesi. This is a short trek that is easily accessible from Kathmandu. Langtang trek is suitable for beginners to experienced people.

Langtang Yala Peak Summit: This trek provides a peak climbing experience without demanding high physical strain. There is no technical climbing necessary for the trek and is ideal for the beginner peak climber. It is the popular Himalayan Peak trekking of Nepal that provides a glimpse of the climbing experience.
